The Specifics
In the eighteenth century, Rum was the reward of choice for British sailors on the high ocean. At that time, Rum was bottled at a much higher proof so that it could be stored with the ship’s ammunition reserves. As a result, the Rum, at 57% alcohol, came to be known as Navy Strength Rum. True to the spirit style, our Navy Strength Rum is made from blackstrap molasses to offer the most intense molasses flavor possible. After aging in charred new American oak barrels, J.J. Pfister mellows the Rum 2-3 additional months in used wine casks.
Navy Strength Rum offers a bevy of aromatic notes including dried fruit cake, leather, oak spice, cinnamon clove, and vanilla. On the palate, as expected, molasses notes exhibit significant complexity – from burnt and sweet caramel to a kettle corn sweetness of charred sugar; from caramel banana and roast pineapple to butter scotch and crème brulee. J.J. Pfister Navy Strength Rum is truly a powerhouse spirit – living up to the Navy Strength Rum tradition of flavors and finish.
Navy Strength Rum is best served in a Jamaican or Tiki type cocktail – or you can sip on this classic spirit just fine. Navy Strength Rum is 114 proof. Each bottle is 750 mL.
