Our Navy Strength Rum is made from organic blackstrap molasses in true rum fashion. Blackstrap molasses is the final byproduct of sugar refining and has the most intense molasses flavor. Our distillation produced a full-flavored rum that we aged in charred, new American oak barrels to impart hints of vanilla, coffee, and cinnamon. After mellowing a few more months in used wine casks our rum was bottled at 114 proof.

Gun powder mixed with navy strength rum will still light. Rum was brought on board British ships in the eighteenth century to reward the sailors. The higher proof rum was needed so it could be stored with the explosives maintaining combat effectiveness if there was a spill. This turns out to be 57% alcohol, a fine proof. It would not do to fight Blackbeard or the French navy if your powder could not do the job.

2 mint leaves
1.5 oz JJ Pfister Navy Strength Rum
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1oz fresh pineapple juice
.5 oz blackberry simple syrup
splash club soda
splash pear juice
Muddle 2 mint leaves serving glass. Add ice. Add rum, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and syrup. Top with club soda. Add a splash of pear juice.

The Blackpowder Daquiri

2 oz JJ Pfister Navy Strength Rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz ginger simple syrup
dash of black charcoal
Combine all ingredients in an ice filled shaker.  Shake well and strain into a tall glass with ice.

Hot Apple Pie Fall Cocktail

1.5 oz Navy Strength Rum

3.0 oz hot water

Stir in 2 oz batter – see recipe

Garnish with cinnamon stick

Batter Recipe for Hot Apple Pie Fall Cocktail

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup raw sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

3/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp whole mulling spices

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup apple puree

Combine ingredients in a pan and heat until combined (no boil). Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Makes 8 servings.  Dru Black
