The title “Master Distiller” is a prestigious one, and we would like to introduce you to ours. With a passion for making unique, high quality libations, Brian Keck has a diverse array of degrees and worldly experience to match. Brian holds a Master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis, the premier program for winemaking in the world. On top of that, he has not one, but two degrees in chemistry that have given him invaluable insight into the processes of fermentation and distillation.
Brian has extensive training in sensory analysis that helps him make perfectly refined cuts in the distillation process, and his goal is to create premium, organic spirits that can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, and in mixed drinks. Before his focus on craft spirits, he spent some time refining his palate and creating several outstanding beer brews, including a Lichtenhainer based on a 100 year old recipe. He experienced making superb premium wines in Napa Valley before pursuing his passion for fine spirits.
Like everything he does, he does it with excellence. By focusing on the aroma and the palate of the products, Brian creates uniquely flavorful and smooth spirits that we know you will love.
Brian is joined by two additional distillers at J.J. Pfister: Chris Johnson and Mike Moore. Chris obtained a Master’s Degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis alongside Brian and brings his knowledge of winemaking production and winemaking analysis as well as his experience working as an enologist at two premier Napa Valley wineries. Mike was originally trained in pure mathematics and went on to graduate from UC Davis with a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education, and he brings his precision and rigor to distilling at J.J. Pfister.
Together, this team utilizes the science and the art of distilling to create superb, certified organic craft spirits.
